The Lars Ulrich Effect

YouTube Preview Image

Have you noticed that out of 10 clips on Youtube at least one is not longer “available in your country”? That is because 10 years ago the drummer of a company made a small wave. And it is about to flood the land of reason. The argument over copyright certainly is complicated and there is not a simple solution to the matter. But if this development gains more impact, the internet could degenerate towards a regional/provincial server network. Could. Because  ”video” did indeed not “kill” the “radio star” and downloads and mash-ups won´t kill the music industry either. Too big to fail comes to mind. But in some way the industry´s political push towards the extension of copyright already makes creativity illegal. The internet is nothing less than global creativity in a network. That is unprecedented. And honestly: Much more important than revenue. Even Lars Ulrich finally got it. He doesn´t like wrong rules either.
